30 cal or 50 cal casing

A few days ago while on the Venice, FL city beach I found a shell casing I am not sure which caliber it is, but from the research I did and my knowledge of the history of the area, I figured out that it was made in Saint Louis in 1943, which goes along with the fact that they used the local airfield as a military training base back in WWII. Sorry I don't have a picture but my camera isn't good for close up shots.

Cool. Measure the end that the projectile came out of and if it measures 1/2", it's a .50 cal.

You can close your hand and cover a 30cal casing... 50cal is way big!

Tip of your little finger will fit IN a 50cal, NOT a 30 cal.

That should be close enough for a quick ID...

The numbers on the case headstamp will give more detailed info, if you wish.

Well thanks for the tip. I actually tried the other persons suggestion and measured the opening and it measured a half inch, which according that reply would tell me that its a 50 cal. It is a huge shell, the spent shell itself is just a tad over 4 and 1/2 inches in length.
