I thought I'd share some pictures of the 3rd annual kids fishing derby I put on yesterday. It is something I volunteer to do for the kids in our subdivision every year. They have a blast, and so do I. We have a beautiful stocked pond that has some great fishing in it. The weather was beautiful and in the 70's with a nice breeze. Ahhhh.
We give out trophies in two different age groups for the largest gamefish (Bass) and largest panfish (Bluegill, Crappie, etc). Also a trophy for the most fish caught (won by a 5 yr old ;D ). The largest fish caught was a 12 1/4" Bass by a little girl.
We have snacks (Goldfish crackers, Gummy worms, Swedish fish) , drinks, games & prizes.
This year I added two new games: One was guess the total count of candy in the jar. 1st place won a new rod & reel, and 2nd place kept the jar full of candy. The little 5 yr old boy who won the trophy for most fish caught, also won the rod & reel. He was having a GREAT day.
The second new game this year was sort of a game of skill (or luck :tongue3: ) . I called it "cast for cash". I put money (bills & dollar coins) in tiny plastic zip baggies, tied the bags with fishing line, and attached them to bobbers. I tossed them into the pond and whoever hooked them kept the amount inside ($2.00-$5.00).

The wooden boat & cutout fish I made as props so we can take pictures by them each year.
I learned we had a celebrity at the derby too. The huge guy you see with his little girl is Ashley Sheppard, a professional football player who used to play for the Minnesota Vikings and others too he told me. Nicest guy you would ever want to meet.

Thanks for looking,
MM (Doug)
