The Vaquero has been putting me through the paces......teaching me it's distinctive tones and language. I've managed to get about 8 hours of listening and deciphering at 2 "hunted out" sites. It was a struggle learning to ground balance, but after some coaching from brother Soloman and lots of practice, it's become easier. The real shock (after a year with the Compadre) has been digging pull tabs, small buttons, lighter striking wheels and smaller bits (coin sized) of can slaw at 8" on a regular basis.........there's still a lot for me to learn..........

1883 IHP at 7", the '45 Wheat at 6" and that tiny little silver ring at 8"............I'm amazed...........and enthused!!

Thanks for lookin' in and good luck to all on you hunting adventures!!

Nice Finds. I love finding Indians.

Nice digs! That Indian is a beauty.

Yep the Vaquero is the deepest machine for the money. Nice finds

Nice IH Cent and Silver Ring and good luck on learning more about your machine!

Looks like you are doing well with the machine congrats on some nice finds

Congrats on your finds!

Having used the Vaquero for 2 years I can say it is a good detector and has treated me to some nice finds. However, for me personally the story of learning the tones and "language" was not that accurate. There are so many iffy's that if you dont want to miss anything good you should look more at where it discs in or out than the tone in my opinion. Maybe its because im more of a visual person than an auditive person but for me the tones were really not what helped me make out good targets...

Good luck

Congratulations on the good looking IH find!

Thank you, Benjamin. Yeah, tones still get me, so I'm digging every signal that repeats and trying to make a mental note of the sounds. I'll start disc'ing after I've dug 100 or so targets.

Congratulations on the silver ring
and your first IHP of 2017.

What I did was run it pretty much open disc, just above iron and when I got a repeating target I "thumb" the disc knob and see where it discs out and in and then mentally mark that spot for the most common targets like pulltabs, small denomination coins, etc and then if you dont have much time to dig trash or want to be more efficient eventually try to ignore those signals but of course there is always the one gold ring that discs out just like a pulltab.... you never know.. good luck!

Way to go buddy! Gold is coming!!!:hello2:
