Pick this up at a second hand store because I thought it looked old and interesting.

I can make some words on the bottom. Walnut, manufacturer, and Bliss.

Well I am guessing it is patterned after a Kennedy tool chest and is for precision machinist tools. My Grandfather had Kennedy's. Bliss might be the manufacture, walnut is the wood it is made out of which was standard for machinist chests. Bliss did make tool chests.

I thought that too! I have refinished a few toolboxes and there was always some felt left in the drawers. There was never any in the drawers
I should have posted more pictures.

Sweet old chest. Not sure about refinishing it, but it is interesting.

It's definitely a machinists tool box, made by Bliss Tool Co. can't say an exact age but I'd think early 1900's. It's a great box and looks really good. I wouldn't do anything to the finish on it, there are a lot of collectors out there and they want them as is, and showing honest age.

A little more info on my box!

Known as a 'Jennings Style' chest, there was a competitor with the same styling, but lesser known - The Bliss Toy Co, I think Pawtucket, RI. They were not nearly as successful with the boxes, but did make very collectible and now expensive toys and some tools like wooden parallel clamps.

These are from a box being finished on a machinist forum! What the bottom would say and the same hardware!
