Got into the watershed this afternoon to recon my way to an old sunken road dating from the early 19th century. First find along the hike in is this recent antler shed.

Got back to the location of a black smith shop and found lots of iron targets. Among the keepers are this piece of rectangular brass, a lantern part, canning jar lid liner (Boyd's), the top to a crotal bell, and a 1909 Indian Head Cent.

A 1909 Indian. The last of the Mohicans. Gary

Congrats on the nice collection. Great looking IHP. Now that my seminars are over I hope to catch up with you.

Did you check that 1909 for an S mint mark ? There were only 309,000 minted, and that is a key date (with the S) to the series. It's going to have some value if that S is there. I like that shed. Always fun to run across those.

Thanks Trezurehunter. Coin has some corrosion but I cannot make out an 'S'. Looked for the other antler but no luck yesterday. I suppose the other could be a quarter mile away somewhere.

Thanks Jamie. This site is in LR and is accessible more easily now before all the briars start growing.

Hmmm. I'm wondering if that shed might be a year old. If the base is creamy white, it's a new shed. If it's discolored, it's old. Sheds are always a nice find.

Thanks Gary. It rang up a clear 22/23 on the Equinox and wasn't deep. Spent a little time digging a sort of trash/demo pit and got the lantern part, the round fitting, lots of pane glass and nails. In 1909 the building would have been in use but in the next 10 years all the land would be purchased by Baltimore City and work begun to dam the river.

Definitely creamy white. That was apparent when I picked it up.

Nice finds.. I wish i could find a shed like that. I actually go for walks just to look for sheds.

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

I kinda figured you knew that, but there are tons of folks that don't. We have all found sheds that are either dark or bleached. Bleached ones could be a year old. Just about the only way you can tell s by looking at the base. (Don't tell anyone, our secret), I would rather have found your shed then your coin.:icon_thumright:

Nice old IH cent and other goodies! :occasion14:

I was thrilled with the shed.

Thanks texjim. Good size on the shed. Good way to start a hunt.

Thanks Professor. I'd never detected there before and now I know that the old map has me on the right spot.

I like that it's not broken or gnawed on....pretty complete....except for the other one.

Thanks Randy. It was good to get out on a mild afternoon in February.
