Got out today door knocking with bladerunner2019. First silver was the beat up mercury dime. It’s kinda dome shaped. I thought it was a button when I first pulled it. Later in another yard found 3 more silvers. I thought I had a half dollar under my coil but it ended up being a buffalo, a V and two wheats. Then I dug the strange Coin bladerunner said it’s a real old but heavily produced Chinese coin. Does anyone know anything about them? Like how old. 9824BE08-B7AA-41C3-BCCC-64F49DEB9E8D.webpCBD49D83-F316-46A7-9929-8B2E17098782.webp811EB5B8-AB82-49C7-827F-5E1147E374D1.webp3B35F554-F07A-498C-BF1D-5798CFF1D6B3.webp

What’s your door to door strategy? Time of day? Elevator pitch? Been thinking of giving it a try. Nice finds!

Best to avoid Sunday but this weekend it couldn’t be avoided. We try to avoid knocking before noon. After knocking step away or off the porch. Try not to put your hands in your pockets. Be as non threatening as possible. I would advise against wearing political or sports team clothing. You don’t wanna wear your trump hat with you Tar Heel shirt at a duke fan who is a socialist’s house. You don’t wanna lose your chance before they even open the door. Good to tell them who you are, what you do and that you won’t kill their grass. Try to get out information that will put them at ease in your first comments. You might not get another chance. I say something like “ hello my name is Clint, I detect as a hobby. We are looking for coins and relics. We typically dig small plugs and put them back without killing the grass”. I can’t tell all my secrets but regardless some people are gonna say no. Let’s say they seem to be nice but turn you down. If they have a field beside their home you might ask if it would be ok to just detect there. Some people will see how good you repair the ground and let you dig the yard. It has happened.

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

when the Chinese flocked to Calif. in the 1800s ...they set up a lot of there own small towns - usually
where there was work - such as building railroads or gold mining - they would bring these over by the barrels full and they
would use amoungst each other until they started earning US coinage - they would trade them as "good luck" pieces when they stopped
holding any real value over here
as Wiki mentions - they would make art items out of them or trade them as good luck pieces - there are pieces
know as coin swords made out of them - they would make wind chimes with them and trade or sell them that way
Many many are found in Cali. areas but little by little they got carried eastward and have probably been found in every state

I found my first in my yard when i was a kid in the 70s - Im sure it was carried as a "lucky charm"

Nice job on the coins.
