OK OK, no I didn't dig them up, but today is the day McDonald's is releasing the 50th Anniversary Big Mac Coin. There are 5 in the set. If you buy a Big Mac, they will give you a coin if you ask the Cashier. Here are the Coins being released today:

1968-1978
1978-1988
1988-1998
1998-2008
2008-2018

Look at it this way, in a way its a Treasure Hunt or Coin Hunt. Want a Coin, buy a Big Mac or in my case beg a friend for their Coin. I already got all 5 Coins. Only 6 Million are being distributed worldwide in 50 countries, so consider that's really no that many coins available. On eBay they are asking a fortune for just 1 Coin let alone the entire set. In any case, if you interested good hunting and good luck. They will have collectable value down the road that I am sure.

Thanks for the info! I'm sadly VERY familiar with the Big Mac, but I had no idea they were issuing commemorative coins. This is JUST the excuse I needed!

Do I still get a big mac fries and a coke for under a $!.00?

You know I am sure even if you just ordered a coke and went through the Drive Thru and asked they'd give you a coin. LOL!

I’d be more interested in a Burger King coin....

Burger King..LOL! Come on Dave it's the BIG MAC! I remember when they were even bigger. But seriously, I collect Coins and I couldn't resist getting them. I also Metal Detect...

Years from now these Big Mac coins will be dug from the ground, detectorists be like :icon_scratch:

Funny you should mention this. Last time out I picked up 30 big mac wrappers and I think one of the junk holes I dug had a buried big mac in it, must've been there a while! :tongue3:

Mine rings up at 78 on my AT Pro, so maybe it's brass? Should hold up well in the ground, if that's the case.

I'm 55 years old. In my entire life I've eaten a burger from McD's one time. I was not impressed.

Yes, I saw an NGC Graded MAC Coin and yes its brass. Graded MS68 by NGC

are they only selected restaurants ? i bet they aren't even silver ? how long do i have to wait for a subway footlong coin ? if they're not a precious metal why would they be collectable then ?

Don't know if anyone has ever worked in a fast food restaurant, I use to do voice and data for company I worked for Mcd, Burger King, Wendys and I stopped eating in every one of them after being in their kitchens. It wasn't so much because they were so dirty, it was the amount of grease from the grill that was on everything, there were grease icicles every where, floors, counters equipment was covered in grease, I realized that was the grease that I was putting in my body.

Same here, T_H. I used to do pest control work in the Chicago metro area. I'll skip the kitchen horror stories...some members may be eating. 😖

They only minted six million or so worldwide. There are 5 different coins, so that's only 1.2 million of each coin. They're selling for some pretty outrageous prices on eBay right now.
