They use those blanks at military funerals. They gave me a bag of used ones at my dad's funeral after they fired the salute. Maybe someone got those at a funeral and had second thoughts on the way home and tossed them out the window. Can't think why they'd be fired/used along a road. Gary
 

May have found an old military training area. We used blanks alot when I was in. If there is no links with it (disintegrating machine gun links) then they may be from an M14 type rifle or older. Someone may have dropped them there out of a box or had a malfunction and had to clear it. If you found ones that were damaged (exploded) that could have happened if they were in a fire.
 

Never ceases to amaze me the things this community on TNet pulls from the ground - interesting finds, especially out in the woods off an old highway! :icon_thumright:

I don't think I dug them all up.leftnmost there only took .three.I will be back and I will see how many there are.needed to leave when I found them so will check further
