Found this with the Equinox in the surf area at a late 1800's+ freshwater beach. I believe it was reading 8-9

It's stamped - 14k JAN 2 1900 - on the inside curve

Ive found the tops of cuff links before but this is the first stem for me.

Here’s the original patent, granted to William L Mauran of Providence, RI:

He’s listed for the John T. Mauran Mfg. Co that operated out of Providence as a manufacturing jeweller between 1884-1922, and with an office in New York. John Mauran (presumably his father) ran the company under that name until his death in 1882 and it continued to be listed in trade directories until 1885, when “the estate of…” was added to the company name on the advertisement page.
