A Brass Whatchamacallit

Well, after several of you enlightened me on what Rat Shot ammo is, I thought I'd throw this out to you. Man, you guys are good!!
This piece is made of brass with a set screw and notch at one end and a forked other end that looks like a ball of some kind would rest between the forks. It's almost as if it is some kind of balance adjustment whereas the notch on the bottom may be a fulcrum point and something rested on the other end. I'll bet there are some logical answers out there and whatever we call it, so be it. Thanks for your help. Goadster of Dayton

I think it might be part of the float mechanisn inside an antique toilet tank . But I'm not sure .

Mojjax,,,,,,You know, I think you and I are on the same wavelength. I was thinking since it was brass, water had to come into play somehow. Good answer. So far, we'll go with the antique toilet idea. Thanks!! Goadster from Dayton
