Father in law found where he's found British large cents. Also area is near elementary school with no historical value. Any ideas on this button.

Not sure where it was found, meaning State, or country.
Has that blazer button look.
But that could be a left field guess.

That is a very nice button; looks old too. Hope you get a solid ID from one of the many knowledgeable people who frequent this site. Congrats!

The first thing that came to my feeble mind when I saw it was Paul Revere.

Tough one, looks like another variant of the horse & rider buttons that are found in the US. Most are late 18th-early 19th C. Some holding swords, others not. Some wear hunting related items like hats & whips, others where thought to be military related but with no evidence to back that claim. I think they fall into the pictorial civilian category & they could in some cases (when not Hunts/Sports related ) represent a famous person of the time (or earlier time as a commemoration).
I think it will be tough to get a full attribution on this one, as most of the Records are lost to time. So it's mostly speculation from this point on.
I'll stand corrected if anyone wishes to chime in with some hard evidence, which I will happily add to my knowledge.

It is a nice find, hard to be 100% sure on that photo, but it does look period like the others posted in the past.
