Haven’t detected or posted for several months but glad to be back. The farm I’ve been hunting for a few years has been planted with beans so this will be the only hunt here for a while. Was able to dig a beautiful 1-piece button, a couple of round balls, an 1812 Classic Head LC, and dug a war nickel and the walk back to the truck. Had to quit after a few hours because the temps skyrocketed. My next few hunts will be for new permissions and to get ready for the fall season. Thanks for looking!

From 1808-1814 the mint was hard pressed to find good copper for cents. By the above dates they were using impure copper. They actually ran out completely and there were no cents struck in 1815.

I wasn’t aware of that, thanks for the history lesson.
