Monday I was approached about a newlywed's wedding band which was lost the previous Friday. Spent about an hour in the vicinity with the couple and Dad. I felt that the groom was actually further out than what he thought and that it was just too deep for me. As it was I had been out up to my chin and of course you know once you get out nipple deep you loose the ability to dig because you become bouyant.
This morning I thought I'd go out and give it another go since the water level would be slightly lower. I was getting a lot more signals than I had on Monday which made me a little more optimistic. But I couldn't get out as far as he thought he was. I moved further north and found a sand bar that allowed me to walk further out towards the ocean and another one that went paralell to the shore. Got a decent signal which was on the down slope towards the ocean and tried 2 scoops with no success. On the 3rd scoop I thought if I don't get it this time that's it.
As I pulled the scoop up toward the surface I was really dissappointed. I could see the small amount of sand in the scoop and as I pulled it towards my face I saw the little bit of sand fall though the holes and in the bottom saw that sweet circle that we've all come to recognize as a ring.
Grabbed it out of the scoop and saw the enscription. I had it.
I had to frog kick myself back to a point where I could stand and get back to the beach. It was the most difficult recovery I've made to date. I would never had even attempted to go out to the point I was, even though I know there is some good stuff out there.
Tracked down the in-laws who were staying on the island 2 days more than the newlyweds and arranged it's return this evening.
Very happy and appreciative folks.
Sorry for the long post. This is my 7th return in 21 months of water detecting. Overall ring count this year #84. Gold ring for the year #31.
P.S. 14K white gold FG manufacturer @ 10 grams.
