Hey Everyone,

Yesterday I got into some thick wet clay muck at this spot that I've dug before but not with much perseverance. This hill is made up of giant slabs of earth that have slid down into the creek, and it's very uneven, and so it's hard to get deep enough to find anything - first you've gotta dig through these 5 ft thick mounds. I took a shovel out and decided to just go for it. 4 ft down I was getting discouraged but I finally hit some rusted wire and barrel. 'Got some china and pottery showing up, and then I hit glass. It was a mix of stuff, some fruit jars from the 1940s, and then a base of a whiskey from before the turn of the century. It was very unpredictable, I think because the hill had moved so much over time.

Anyway, I pulled this electrically blue insulator from about 4 ft down, it's the first insulator that I've dug. It has no markings, and I don't know much about insulators. And then I dug my first cobalt ink! It's kind of beat up, but that's okay. I'm looking forward to hitting that hill again!

Nice finds. It's got potential

Sounds like a tough dig but worth the effort!

Thanks guys! Yesterday I got the hole opened up a bit more, found some nice pieces of a few early machine-made milks and sodas/beers. But the amount of glass coming up started to decrease, so I'm gonna try to make an educated guess about where the next clot of stuff is, punch a hole there and eventually connect with the main hole. I'm going out again today. The nice thing is that this is my closest digging spot. Now that I've realized its potential, it's a great spot to get a quick dig in without having to go too far. I'll keep you posted about what comes up!

For some reason your photos arnt loading.

Here are a few more from that spot, and again, I'm really not picky this time of year, I'm just excited to bring something home. The big Tamblyn med is cool, it's a full pint, my biggest machine-made med. All the glass from this place has great clarity, I think because it's suspended and protected in thick clay muck devoid of oxygen, almost like those mummies they pull out of peat bogs in Denmark and elsewhere.

I also took this ball home. I think this ball could be one of two things: a game ball, maybe for billiards, or a sphere that was cracked off of some kind of garden ornament thingamajig. It's chipped on the bottom and so it's harder to identify. If it was whole then it definitely would have been a game ball. For now it's a paperweight!

The ball is about 2.5 inches in diameter. I learned that in Carom billiards (the kind played on a pocketless table) they use balls around this size. This ball looks like it's made of ironstone or something, but I'm not sure. And it definitely looks like it has a glaze, with lots of crazing, coming off in some places. Let me know what you think!

Sorry RelicDude did you mean the original post? My second post didn't have photos. Are you on a cellphone, could that be why? I'm not sure!
