A Dessert rose

These are a few fossils I brought back from the deep Sahara dessert in Algeria.. I work in the Oil Patch 30 days in, 30 out I was on a well 100 miles south of our home base in Hassi Messoud.. I thought some might like to see them... I found the Geode in one piece, I could hear a rattle sound when I found it and when I broke it to inspect only found some small crystals... Not what some has found in them...maybe the next one?? Thanks..... Mike

Yes great finds. Barite rose and quartz geodes. Looks like some huge gastropods(snails).

Very nice. How'd you break your geode, it doesn't look like you used a hammer?

Thanks shellfox, I had a local with me that is familiar with hunting them.. They try to dig up the dessert looking for them to get the Big loose crystals that are beautiful on the insides of some, they sell them to survive there...You can and have to feel the Geode and try to break it on the hollow side to keep it in tack and to keep it from crumbling (That is what he told me).. He used a home made piece of flat bar like a dull knife and whacked it.....you see the end result!I tried to do one when he wasn't around and well I wont try that again...... Thanks.... Mike

i work in the oilfield mud logging biz.i work about a month on and about 10 days off it sux.you must be doing pretty good going out of us.job ops?some finds from rockport tx sloth leg and some sloth teeth.you ever around could show you a few places
