:hello:

Well I managed to get out and find a few decent finds, god knows it's been a struggle to find the time, and find new land. It was one of the old fields that gave me hope, as the new fields were barren. The first item I found I thought was a Token of some sorts, but after a little cleaning it turned out to be A copper one-duit coin of the province of Overyssel in the United Netherlands, dated 1797.

I popped out a nice Henry111 voided long cross hammered 1216-1272, which eventually replaced the short-cross penny, which continued in use until 1247. By then, however, through no fault of the moneyers' there was a problem in that many of the coins in circulation were underweight. This was caused by the illegal practice of clipping silver off the edge of the coin, which was made easier by the cross on the reverse not extending to the rim thus giving people no clear indication of exactly how big the coin was supposed to be. In 1247 therefore, a new long-cross penny replaced the short-cross coin, which made it more obvious when the coin had been clipped. Apart from the change in the size of the cross, the rest of the design did not substantially change, and the long cross made it easy to cut the coin into halves or quarters for change.

Had a unusual find from a Roman bath house site which I think might be a gouge of some sort, or perhaps a roman medical tool, just waiting on a Id for that and will update.

Enough talk here's the pictures.

Silver Searcher , Great finds ! If I went to a coin store in England - what might I expect to pay for a hammered like the one you found ?
just curious -

It depends on the rarity of the mint or the moneyer, but this type usually go for about £15-£50.

You can be happy to get a response at all! :dontknow: Sad...yes.
You got yourself some very nice finds! The front facing hammered is a beaut and the dutch copper is still in ok condition! Uhh, and roman for sure! :occasion14:

Great stuff mate! Same hammered as the one I lost. I'm looking forward to getting out soon.

That is a very special coin. The condition is real nice. I am green with envy sir. My last outing netted 1 clad dime and a bunch of rusty. You would have to call the medics if I located a beauty like that. That is certainly Banner worthy. Someday
