Went out for a few hours tonight. Found a 10 quarter and single penny pocket spill, which was exciting, but not as much as if they had been silver! Dug a key next.
Then found a mini silver fork? A wheat penny, can't get a date from it and a terribly toasted Mercury Dime, looks to be 1940. dime is terribly thin and almost completely white, what a shame >:(

cool !

Dime must have been run over a few Hundred times.

10 Quarters is odd

Still a good hunt.

The fork appears to be tin/aluminum and looks like one from a soldier's mess kit.

That's a good hunt in my books djm! :notworthy:
You should see the junk that I found at an 1810 homestead today! :'(
I'm soaking my iron as we speak and I'll post my finds tomorrow.

2.50 in quarters eh? looks like someone lost their laundry change. Shame about the dime, but silver is still silver.

Microwave a small container (I used empty crystal light cups) of peroxide, but don't super heat it. Drop the dime in it (stand back--watch for flying peroxide) and watch the dirt fall off. Rinse and repeat. Really. Heat the peroxide up again--it works better when it is hot. That should make it sort of look like a Merc. Cures the silver pox and whatever else ails y'all.

thanks all. there was a bake sale at the site back in august, so I'm assuming the quarter spill may have come from that. they were only about 1/4inch under the turf and all lumped together. The merc was in the yard, not sure why it looks the way it does, but it shouldn't have been run over...at least not while it was in the ground. :dontknow:
I'm going to dump it in peroxide later and see what comes out, can't get much worse!
