I've notice a lot of mercs are really worn when we find them. I guess people back then really held onto the coins.
Picked up on the 16ga shotshell top too. Once upon a time the 16 was a bird hunter's dream. I remember my great grandpa had an old savage 16 gauge. The type where the entire barrel moved backward upon firing.
Nice finds, appreciate you sharing them. Brought back an old memory for me.
 

I,ve noticed that too,rarely see a unworn merc come out of the ground.I,m a 16 ga. guy,love them!That Savage worked on the same principle as the Browning Auto-5.Long recoil.
