The Barber dime pictured was found a few days ago and it took two people to free it from the grips of a huge tree root. I received a really sweet signal directly over a really thick (size of my leg) tree root and with the help of Pointdlr's probe we got it at bout 8" maybe more directly under the root. It was a good 15 minute effort.

The Barber Half is a first for me. It was found not far from where I live along an old electric rail line, which is now woodlands. Needless to say I was very surprised and happy to find it. The ground is very highly mineralized so I fear there are many coins I am missing. I could only punch through the first 3-4 inches and that is it. I have to admit I used silver cleaner on the Barber Half only after learning it's a $7.00 coin. It had black stain all over it, but now it's nice and shiny. I am thinking about doing this to all my valueless silver(common mercs & washingtons) because it makes them look so much better.

Also, I found this neat ornate thingy majig made of copper, no idea what it is.

Nice silver finds  I have cabin fever so bad I can barely stand it. Thanks for sharing. As far as your thingamajig it almost looks like a finial of some sort. Maybe from a weather vane??? I don't know but it would make a pretty good frog gig if you straightened out the points.

HH Charlie

congrats on getting out there and finding some nice coins. They look great!

Great hunting.... ;D Go slow with any kind of heavy cleaning, until you look the coin up in the book. I've messed up a few that I wished
I had waited on. And have one (an 1877 I.H.) that I wish to high heaven I had known how to properly clean the coin. The whatever was left on the coin ate the coin up....I have the rim, and part of the indian - enough to see a great, clear L I B E R T Y, .....the rest has turned to ashes. :( When I get back to the States, and dig my found coins out again, I don't know what to expect to see left of my $1,500.00 coin.)

Anyway, great finds. Found the 1/2 along a telephone line? I found my first 1/2 under a tree in the back of a 1950's motel that my wife and I were staying in many many years ago, in Florida. Still remember.

Pretty sweet. I've only found one Barber Half.

Mineralized sites are a #&%* Best to hit them in very dry conditions.

yeah finial, maybe. Wierd, definitely!
Nice dime!

Nice Half !!!

LIGHTING ROD Maybe ?

sweet.
nice digs dude........

Nice find and you had to work really hard for it ::) Paid off in the long run. Nice coin and wierd looking relic ???

Your brass item is definitely a lightning rod. In "Civil War Artifacts of the Western Campaign", Charles Harris identified this as a confederate flag staff ornament. In a later revision he retitled it as a lightning rod.

Smart thinking about the railcar, I would hunt around that area good.

Keep @ it and HH!!
