Today I went detecting in a field a couple of towns over where we had taken my daughter to the Apple Pumpkin Festival about 10 days ago. While there we had seen a sort of "change scramble" where an organization had hid dollars, halves, and quarters in a sawdust pile and gave kids, by age group, a chance to spend 10 mins going through it for the change. Immediately I had told my wife back then, "You know I am going to be detecting here as soon as I can." She just laughed and told her aunt what I had said. Unfortunately, my daughter, only 3 hadn't been able to find any of the money and grew tired of it before her 10 mins were over. Today, I found the spot on the field where the sawdust remnants were...............would you believe all I found was 2 pennies about 3 inches deep in the same hole. No silver clad, dammit. I did do as much of the area as I could in a couple of hours and found $4.09, including a 1977 Kennedy half laying on the ground in plain sight up by the swingsets. I am not sure if I saw it before the detector beeped in my ear or not. Whatever kid must have found it 10 days before must have lost it soon afterwards is all I can think of. Later, after the coin hunt my daughter had wanted to go play on the swings, but my wife and I had told her to stay as the festival itself, enjoying the jump house, booths and food and such, that she could swing anytime at the park in our town. Now I am kicking myself we didn't let her go to the swings and maybe find the half just sitting there herself. I guess it doesn't matter anyway as the clad I find goes either in her piggy bank or to buy some silver that is kept for her college education. Happy hunting all, I am just not sure if I have found a half dollar detecting yet or not. LOL
