I stopped by the bank to dump off some halves and a manger saw me and said I have never seen so many half dollars in one place before. I was a little surprised as he asked me how long it took me to collect that many half dollars. I replied "a while." feeling it was better to say that, instead of 24 hours.

Anyways he came back over and said can I get some of them from you? I was like, "sure how many do you want". I counted out $100 dollars worth of halves on his desk. He gave me a $100 bill and I dumped the rest of the coins and cashed out the counter ticket.

Walking out to the car my daughter said do you think he was hopping to find silver halves in the ones you gave him daddy? I stopped and realize that is exactly what he must have been hoping for. I felt kind of bad as I new there was nothing but 200 clad half dollars sitting on his desk and he was probably doing the same think right then that I was doing when I opened up the box, the halves came from except, while I had the possibility of finding something. There was definitely nothing in his 200 coins.

I am at that branch at least once and I have never seen him again. My daughter say If I see him, I should give him one of my silver halves. I not so sure about that but I have considered it as a public relation so to speak move.

I wouldn't give him one. You know darn well, that if he found one in your stack he would have had the bag removed from the counter right away and searched it. He already has an unfair advantage.

Most likely he has customers asking regularly for halves, and he took some of yours so that he could fulfill some of their requests.

I find that unlikely Arkie, as a manager will have very little contact with a day to day customer asking a teller for halves.

Nothing to feel bad about. You did not short him and who knows why he wanted them. Most likely it was for silver but there are other reasons as well.

Bring in candy to the tellers from time to time and trust me, you will be well received there.

If he did do that to look for silver he can just dump them in the machine and get his 100$ back

When you see him again, just ask him why he wanted them. If he doesn't mention silver, offer to supply him with as much as he wants. If he's looking for silver, be honest with him and tell him not to waste his time - he'll appreciate it. If he's a collector and is looking for stuff you don't collect, then by all means if you have or find whatever he's looking for, save them for him. I agree with Wilmington though; I wouldn't just give him a silver.

I think he probably just thought the coins were interesting and rare. He is probably a newer manager, and still impressed with novel things like that at the bank. One thing that I've discovered in doing this hobby is that very few people are as as "cloak and dagger" and paranoid as us. :-)

give him one, I'd be willing to risk one to pay a manager off. a 90%, it will pay for itself if he lets you use coinlok.

I agree with you ABM. At least once a month I get asked by tellers, and by a branch manager or two as well, for halves (usually $10 or $20 worth) for their customers that are always coming in asking for them.

Agreed. Some of the other replies here have me scratching my head.
There are any number of reasons why he bought some halves off you but in the end does it really matter?

Back around Christmas time I was dumping and the lead teller was talking with me as we were doing the exchange about what I find and how he had a collection too ( i told him I fill Whitman books for my kids) he asked if I ever found any 64's, I said they are hard to find, but I'll look for you and see what I have at home, he said that he was missing that one in his folder that was givin to him by his mom and never has any come into the bank to fill the the space with. He did not really know about Silver from what we talked about everytime I came in, so I know he was legitematly looking for the half, anyway, long story short, I brought him in a 64 the week before Christmas and he was extatic, ever since then when I come in now he is very helpful and nice to me, I asked him if he needed anything else and he said no, now his album is complete and he was very apprciative. So, maybe just ask next time if he is looking for something specific that you can help him out with, that way you know what he is looking for, it may get you some brownie points. HH, Maverick.
