Ok, you guys know I love Tesoro, but something happened a few weeks ago that has been irritating me since it happened.

I was on another forum and some guy in Europe was showing his Compadre finds and I see the detector with one of the 9x8 coils on it. No big deal, I thought. He just modified it himself after he bought it and got rid of the 5.75" coil.

I was wrong. He bought it that way. It turns out they sell the Compadre overseas with the 9x8 coil hardwired to the unit. Wow! My dream detector! A Compadre that covers more ground per swing.

So I call up Tesoro and ask them where I can buy one.

You can't, they said.

Why not, I ask.

They're only available overseas, they said.

Why's that, I ask.

His answer was, and I'm not kidding, in Europe they demand the extra depth the 9x8 coil gives them.

I almost fell off my chair. What the heck do they think Americans want?? So we have Compadre performance, a coil that covers more ground, offers better depth, and we can't buy it in America.

You can be French, German, Iranian, etc., walk into any detector shop overseas and walk out with a Compadre with a 9x8 coil. But if you're American, well, you can just go @*&X$! yourself.

Really? Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate the consideration.

Sorry for the rant, but I'm really steamed about this.

I sorta understand the red tape involved and why I can't get a 40mpg Jeep with a diesel in the USA but they can in Europe. But that makes no sense to me. Wonder how much it costs?

That's what worries me. Are they afraid that a Compadre with that kind of setup would deeply affect the sales of their other machines?

I can't see that happening to the Vaquero, or the Tejon, or any of their other higher end machines.

And they sell their other brands in Europe too.

It makes no sense.

Well Smudge..... It sounds like a bunch of bull crap to me.................. Tesoro could do it if they wanted to............. Seems like Tesoro is telling there detector fans to go to hell now........... But Smudge could you not buy the 9x8 coil and put it on your self or have some one else put it on............ That is one way to get one on your detector..................

You're right Keppy on all counts.

I have zero abilities in the technology department so I can't do it myself.

And if I could find someone to splice it in for me, would it work? Would the internal controls need to be adjusted to allow for a different coil. I only ask because the 5.75" coil hardwired which makes me wonder if another coil would not work as well. Again, I'm no good in the technology department.

But none of this should be necessary.

Tesoro already makes it and it ought to be available to us, unless Tesoro believes we are somehow less deserving than the European market.

Well Smudge don't feel bad i have the same abilities as you have in that department.........." NONE"................................ Do you think a dealer in Canada might sell the detector with that coil.......................... Shipping from Canada is not that much i bought detectors from Canada before............

First I have to wonder if the batts would last as long. More surface=more energy expended. With that said, I worked a lot of deals with folks from Europe and you would be suprised what is and is NOT exported here. Just in the Mercedes line. It's a long and drawn out story but whatever the reasons Tesoro has they have a reason.

I'm living in Europe and I have the 5.75 Compadre, a detector that I like

for me depth is a trap sometimes

Quick question.

I know the Cortes has an available 9 x 8 - any possibilities there?

Beth

Ooops, forgot this:

http://www.accuratelocators.com/tesoro.html
Looks like mrs.orobblanco...... found accurate locators has the ..Compadre .. with a 7 inch coil............. And with all the countrys that accurate locators is in they might find you a 9x8 coil on a Compadre..........................

Thought I would add this possibility - just for you to consider.

Australia is one of the countries that has the coil you are looking for. I see that there are some available on the Ebay stores in Australia. (don't have to bid on them - they have their "stores"), which might help.

Here is a link. (my philosophy is - if you know they exist somewhere, you just gotta find the right somewhere) :laughing7:

There are also a couple in Germany and in England, just have to go to the Ebay's from that country.

Good Luck.

Beth
