There's this portion of an older avenue here in town where the city is erecting a few habitat homes. The land once had homes, but they have be demolished in favor of these newer projects. It's been an ongoing endeavor for about a year or more now, and most of the modest homes have been built with the exception of an open lot still remaining at the end of the block by the intersection. I drive by it almost everyday now (as do many others) as a detour due to construction elsewhere. So off this main busy avenue, on the perpendicular street next to the open lot, I kept seeing the grass area between the walkway and road (the "tree belt")...and wondered. So, after about 12 hours of recent rain, I finally decided the timing was right and gave it a shot during my lunch hour today. My decision paid handsomely. I plucked my 40th silver coin of the year, plus a .925 silver ring as a bonus. The ground was great digging: dark soil, fairly loose. It made me think of how little time I have left this season. I nicked the Merc (some 6" down) while bringing it to the surface, but luckily it isn't a key date.
