Went to a ballfield today only expecting to find clad, just wanted to bump up the totals. To my surprise I find a 1849 Large Cent only two to three inches down. check it out.

Very nice, indeed! If it ever gets below 100 degrees here, I'll be back to detecting!! I'm anxious to get back out.... :help:

Congrats, in nice shape. You did well. You are right, you just never know what awaits you.

Woohoo! congrats on your first largie. what the heck it was doing out there no one knows. that's what makes this hobby so great. you never know!

Congrats on your first LC.

It could have been there way before the ballfield or brought in with fill from somewhere else when the field was leveled...who knows. I hunted a ballfield that I found a LC, hard times token and a late 1600s Spanish cob all within about 30 feet of each other. I assume there was some sort of structure on that site prior to the ballfield. This year they turned that field into an astro turf field so it is no longer huntable. Even our open spaces are being lost to progress.

Across the street from the ballfield sat an old log cabin courthouse, but where i found th LC was pretty far from where it sat but who knows maybe someone running from the law dropped it. LOL.
