Hit a field me and RMBUTCHER hit a few weeks ago with no luck at all...I know now what are mistake was..we took our detectors with us!! First I find an 1859 IH laying right on the surface then less than 5 feet away an 1850 LC again right on the surface also dug up an 1888 IH and a copper coin?? It's larger than a LC but not perfectly round one side is toasted the other side all I can make out is a wreath going around it..but very faint..thanks alot HH ForumRunner_20130419_155847.webp

Maybe the coin with the wreath on it has been flattened by a train?? Nice finds!!!

I'm not even gonna call it a coin yet..lol

A railroad LC...that would be an amazing find...but I'd worry it might derail the train :-)

It could be a large, thin flat button. Is there any evidence of an attach point on the other side? But anyway...amazing surface finds!!! :hello2:

no no attach point..I definitely see a wreath though..I don't know, maybe I'll try to clean er up..might get some more detail

Nice finds! How thick is the large coin? Try rubbing a little olive oil or bees wax on it and looking at it in the sunlight at an angle and you might be able to get some detail. Is it perfectly round and flat? How thick is it?

Not perfectly round..just as thick as a modern cent not quite as thick as a LC..first thing I did was rub a little olive oil on her that's how I could see the wreath going all the way around the inner circumference of the coin..shes pretty smooth

If you look closely at the picture with all 4 in my hand you can see the wreath
