Found at a Spanish/American war camp that was later used as a golf course. There are no markings on it. Appears to have a brass frame and is pretty sturdily constructed. Could it be a military buckle from the S/A war era?

I had to search for it on the link you posted but it is a match. Now, I have to figure out how this buckle got about 5"s in the ground at a site that has been vacated for 20+ years if it is no older than 2003.

Yeah I don't know. I recognized it because I used to use the same buckle.

Do you think they might have brought dirt in when they built the golf course?

The golf course has been abandoned for 20+ years. I found this buckle in the same area where tent rope tensioners, shell casings and period buttons were recovered. It's one for the "I don't know" file.
