A little lead - a little artillery. Decent hunt in the trenches.

Gorgeous weather here in central Virginia. Three .69 cals a couple of 3-ringers and some shell frags. A piece of 20# Parrot I think, tail end of a schenkel and as nice a piece of 12-pounder as I've ever found.

Excellent CW recoveries! Great hunt. Is that part of a trace chain in the bottom right?
Congrats,
MM

Wonderful group of CW finds. Wish they could be found in my area but unfortunately they cannot.

The frag at upper left in the photo is from the nose portion of a 3" Schenkl Case-Shot. Your guesses about the other frags are correct. More specifically, the 12-Pounder roundshell frag is from a Case-Shot. (In 12-Pounder caliber, Case-Shot shellwall is about .45" thick, and Common-Shell shellwall is about .70" thick... and of course, the fuzehole area is thicker than that.)

There's a lot of history in your pic. Thanks for posting and best of luck out there.

Nice saves man. Dig that iron!

Thanks for sharing...

cool relics. reading this post on Memorial Day, my first thought was to reflect on the men who died in that battle and wonder if any of the fragments from those shells took their lives

Sweet Finds
I found the Threaded Nose Piece Of a Shell yesterday, Still very Rusty.
Davers

Not the whole nose but kinda like the piece you have pictured .

great bunch of finds, always like reading your posts!

Agreed. I OFTEN look at my "impact" bullets and shell frags from over the years and wonder how many of them took a life. I would bet it's more than a few . . . Thanks for the good words from all of ya'll. I have really enjoyed being a part of this "community."
