Three weeks back I had a display of some of my detecting finds at an 1812 reenactment. I have been at this event for many years, there are always lots of stories about found items, once in awhile someone will bring along some interesting finds. This year it was a hot day, we were set up under a big tree. There was one person that stopped by to discuss some of his native artifacts he has found, the one peace he spoke of was a peace of petrified wood from Arizona, he said it was the colour of ivory and in the shape of a Celt, it has travelled along way. But back to my one visitor that was this kid carrying a big knife, he was just proud to own it. He was really interested in my finds, I have one case with broken china, the stuff you find at old home sites. He said that at his place there is lots of that kind of stuff in the field beside his house, I am interested now, he also mentioned that they have found several old toys, lead toys in the grove behind the house. Now I am really interested, he said that his father would have no problem looking around, he gave me his home number. I called them yesterday to see if I could come down once the corn comes off, his dad said go for it, you are more than welcome. I guess there were acouple of older homes in the field, the township was settled in 1817 or so. So this November I will be busy, but for now I will just wonder what might lay there in the soil waiting to be found.
