Tesoro Vaquero
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
well this is the 3rd time ive been out , 1st tine I got a few pennys and beer tabs . 2nd time , some kinda peice of metal and hot rocks ( well i think LOL) and this time a peice of foil that they wrap lil choclate easter eggs in , a 1976 penny, a 1980 penny and a 2000 quarter. when they have been burried that long it's hard to tell what they are , there so dark. I got a tesoro vaquero and its hard to tell the difference in signal between trash and good . today I was in lake st. louis boulavard park in missouri. Would luv to find someone close with some experience , who would like to parner up, and maby teach me a few things. happy diggin'

Well first you can search youtube to see some videos on how to learn your machine.
I have to be honest I had 2 tesoros and wasn't lucky with any, so I sold them both, but many people out there like them a lot. O personally prefer a detector with a screen and a VDI number that can tell me what "might" be down there.

Howdy wyrnut,
By any chance do you have a place where you can make yourself a test garden? No, not for veggies for metal objects you bury say 4, 5, 6" or so into the ground. Allow a good three feet between targets so you do not get hits on more than one target. This way you can learn what kind of metal sounds like when you are over it with the coil. This will help to teach your hearing senses what you want to find and what you want to leave. Any clubs in your area? If so check them out its a good way to learn about detecting and usually the folks are pretty nice. Best of luck to ya.............63bkpkr

Ill be on my fourth hunt next with my Tesoro Vaquero also, and have had similar findings for my first three attempts. I don't mind digging up trash, I enjoy being outdoors and try to keep the fun in the hunt and not in the find. I have started to get a better sense of the tones, except for bottle caps. They sound exactly like coins to me. :dontknow:

they do and you know they say if your not digging pull tabs you aren't digging gold. I'll dig everything I find more goodies that way. I know what a coin sounds like and I know if I raise my detector up a good foot and still have a solid signal is more then likely a can. I also know that if my vdi is bouncing every where its trash. but like you I enjoy the hunt, but after 50 pull tabs I go straight to coins only. I'll leave those other hours for another day. I like you man send me a pm sometime I would like to hear more about your hunts and maybe we can help each other.

>>> 63 <<< your rite up my ally , i've looked into a local club that im going to check out , been all over u tube about my detector , and although i havent planted a garden (which I need to) I have laid out coins and bottle caps and tabs and ran across them to hear there sound and see their position. to me its not near as easy to find the coin once you locate it with your detector as they make it look in videos LOL. it might be that im digging in mud and not dirt tho.. I can see me getting better tho. and thats saying alot since ive only been out 3 times.thank you all.

look into getting a pin pointer it helps you find the target a lot faster. it is a small hand held detector that searches inside the whole for you instead of picking the machine back up to scan the hole and the dirt. I just got a 127 dollar one for free. hit me up I'll tell you how

I have a cheap harbor freight one . how'd u get a free one?

I know digging up pul tabs gets to be a drag............ but, on my Bounty Hunter, the pull tab signal, is the signal for gold too. I used my maching for about 4 months until someone told me about the pull tab, and nickel signal, so when I started digging them, I finally hit a gold ring. Now about 5 months later, I have three gold rings, two are 14k, one 10k. Besides, the pull tabs can be donated to charities, I give mine to a friend, he knows where to take them.
