I was able to get in a 5 hour hunt and found some cool things. 15 Wheat pennies, a crotal bell pat dates Oct 24th, 1876 and May 14th, 1878, an old skeleton key, a valve stem cover for a Model T, A reins guide, and a Matron Head large cent dated 1828. Andres Pencils helped bring out some decent details on the LC. I was surprised I didn't find any silver coins but I think this area was cherry picked for all the higher signals. Most of the Wheats were 6 inches or deeper. The LC was dug at 8 inches. Hard digging as it is really dry here in my neck of the woods. A nice hunt and not too hot. IMG_0001.webpIMG_0002.webpIMG_0003.webpIMG_0004.webpIMG_0006.webp I tried to find an old homestead in the mountains with my son on Saturday but all we accomplished was walking miles up and down the mountain and finding nothing but a huge Timber Rattler. I will give it another try to locate the old homestead again. I think I found it on Google Maps after we got home and it seems we missed it by about 300 yards. It was trees and brush and you would have to be right on top of it to find it.

Even wothout silver, those are some dang nice finds and unless the place is just chock full of trash, I'd be back at it and digging damn near everything. Grats on all the goodies and good luck next time with the old homestead.

Awesome good to see your still rippin my friend Great day

A very nice collection of finds. The crotal bell is my favorite. I've yet to come across one in my neck of the woods. Congrats!

Congrats on the nice hunt and cool old copper and key! :occasion14:

Great finds! Google maps sure is a great tool... some of my best old homesteads have been found just by rolling up and down endless canyons and looking for rock walls or anything man made.

Have not been out as much as I would like but glad for this hunt, Tommy.

Nice finds John. I figured you would need a jackhammer to dig in the Cove now. I'm waiting on rain. And not a good time to be on one of the surrounding mountains! Black phase or yellow phase?

Congrats on all the nice finds. That large cent is in great shape. I would like the wheat pennies that I dig a lot more if they looked as nice as those. Great job cleaning and preserving.

Black phase, Duane. It has been hard digging lately but I haven't been out hunting much. Too hot and too dry.

I don't usually find large coppers with that much detail. I was surprised. The Wheats take some time to clean. Peroxide soak for about 24 hours then rinse in soapy water, dry, and use a fine brass brush on the common dates.

Nice hunt! Good luck with finding the mountain site. Congrats

Very nice !

Funny thing - I dug an old screwdriver handle just like yours at a late 1800's house yesterday.

That it a valve stem cover for an old Model T. If yours is threaded inside it would also be for a Model T

Nice finds...do you like the White spectrum xlt ? I use a V3i and really like it. It can really ID the target and just got the larger detech coil for it too. Skeleton keys are the coolest...dug up my first one last week after 9 years in the hobby. Keep on posting !
