To all the penny hunters and sorters, I read that you are keeping the copper years (Lincoln pennies). I know they are worth about twice face value, can you sell them for the copper? If so where? Has anyone sold any for copper weight?
I knew it about the legality of melting coins. I just wondered if anyone was selling them for the copper value. We hunt silver coins and its sell price is based on spot. Same legalities....
And it's legal to melt silver coins. Just not the copper (for example pre '82 cents and current nicks). You can check spot for your silver 'sell' prices, and the same can be said for copper. Again, I refer you to eBay.
