Do I really need an NGC or PCGS holder telling me that my early 1900s or before coin graded under ANA Standards in any given grade needs a DETAIL'S ,Labeled of the front, EXAMPLE . Yesterday at my LCS I saw an 1860 SL half I liked NGC graded as Au ."Details" "damaged" and when I looked at it under the loop noted the coin graded AU 50 with its tiny "OLD" nicks & other imperfections as an ANA graded coin in that grade should look.
I probably would have purchased it if it were not for the label - "details damaged" witch took something away from the coin IMO. I'd be happy with NGC giving such a coin a label like Authentic Au 50 or what not and leave the details grade for the newer coins. Just my opinion.

IMO, I'd prefer a detailed label on any coin that will advise me of characteristics that may further enhance or decrease the value of the item.
Don.....

If the coin still looks good, sometimes you can buy it for a good price, crack it out & resubmit it. Or sell it raw. Just be sure to provide good pics on eBay so you aren't misleading anyone.

Thanks for the opinions . Davers

That's the point in having one slabbed. You get an independent grader to list the good and bad points on a coin so you can make an informed bid.
