Hi all:

I have been way too busy (and the ground's pretty dry) to hunt lately but finally got away Sunday. We could not have had more gorgeous weather! I didn't have a ton of time so I ended up at the farm just down the road from us. I knew the homeowners were gone until at least 4 p.m. so I concentrated on areas closer to the house. I found some clad, all from the 70's and newer, and a few too many Mason jar lids. ::) The first interesting relic I dug was some kind of name plate that has possibly a social security number on it. :icon_scratch: I checked later with the homeowner and there was a "William Fenton" who once lived in the house. Shortly later I got a signal that was pinpointing larger than a coin and I almost didn't dig it. But I'm glad I did as I pulled my first (finally!) crotal bell out, and it's a biggie. Made my MDing day!

Now for that thimble......:)

I wondered about reshaping the back of the bell where it was crushed. :dontknow: The homeowner suggested I heat it first with a blowtorch. Is it worth trying? It still has it's dinger in it.

Thanks for looking and HH,
Michiganne AKA Queen of the Mason lids

cool finds Anne!, glad you were able to get out for a bit. that crotall bell is sweet  I've never dug a whole one that still jingles ;D I have a tendancy to want to always try and bend things back into shape, even used a hammer once or twice :-\ but I've broken a couple of relics that way. I always want to test old hinges lol. HH

Great hunt Anne  big congrats on your first crotal bell! I love finding them. Last winter I got 2 big silver plated ones in a woods in park/preserve here in town and I figured there might be more in the area but no luck.

Nice going Anne! I have a whole collection of crotal bells. I love finding them. They are cast, so you might be better to leave it the way it is. I have a web site if you want to date it? Ya done good girl! :)
