From the land of the Bluenose....by the assortment of finds that area has a lot of promise. Thanks for letting us have gander youz!

That's one heck of an lead ball, looks in great shape too! :o
Love the hinge, is it brass or iron I wonder :icon_scratch:

dats a big one -- 69 is about equal to a 12 gauge shotgun deer hunting round ball slug --76 is about equal to a 10 guage shotgun ball slug for deer hunting in a modern gun --- yours is most likey from the rev war era musket--its huge

what size are the shotgun shellheads marked? those are brass ended "papershell" body type --they look like 12 and maybe 10 guage. seems to be 2 sizes

Imgine if that hit you in the head :-[!!!! Nice find there! :icon_thumright:

That lead ball is the largest one i have found yet in a field that butts up next to the Historic Site from the mid 1600,s to the late 1700,s ,from left to right those shot gun shell heads are all paper shells still have paper inside when i removed all the dirt 1 Winchester 10 gauge new rival , 2 Winchester 12 gauge new rival ,

Just the thought of getting hit with that anywhere makes me cringe !

at 76 cal it could be a round ball "pumpkin ball" type 10 gauge deer hunting slug --seeing that one of the shotgun shells is a 10 guage thats possible *-- but i still think its a old musketball myself , based upon the depth found at and history of the area you provided.

and out of either the musket or a 10 gauge shotgun --i would not want that thing coming my way.

brown bess's were 75 cal smoothbores

Dd, I've dug 3 or 4 of those .75 cal. balls in CW sites-both CS & US. A local relic dealer said they were used in a 1842 Musketoon pistol too. Great recoveries and HH.

That's like a modern day S&W 500.....I couldn't imagine the recoil from a pistol with that caliber :o .Great dig's Dd and thank's for sharing :icon_thumright:
