Today was the coldest detecting day this winter, with a freezing wind & a couple of snow showers.

The morning plan was to visit one of our newer landowners to show him last years stuff. He was too busy to show the stuff but at least we kept up relations & got continued permission to do one of his fields that he left for spring drilling. This field is massive & although it had a couple of crop-marks on it we think they are pre-Roman. The only finds we get are random/isolated & acres apart & that was no different from todays scouting effort (3 hrs);
1 Scrappy
1 1st C AD Fibula (Brooch) bit
17th C Buckle
1/2 Spec. Buckle
Bits...

In the afternoon we moved to finish off a small corner of the Roman Lion Site & got the following in 2.5 hrs;
(It was nice not to have the usual sticky conditions & it did my knees the world of good)
5 Scrappies
Bit of a Roman Bracelet
Victorian Army General Service Button
Best find - Iron Age (Celtic) Penannular Brooch (1st C BC - 1st C AD)

They get broken a lot, so had a couple of tiny bits, & only one more complete than this with it's pin!

Awesome finds

way to tough it out - should have been with me in the atlantic today - water was like 38 degrees F - think that's around 4 or 5 C

Very nice as usual for you. I don’t get out much anymore due to work, I’m in Bulgaria on business and do not have my detector with, this would be a dream hunt!

Hi, welcome back. I assumed you had left the site. Nice to hear from you again.

One heck of a find Cru! Just the pin missing... Wow! :icon_thumright:

Very Very Nice! What do you define as a "Scrappie"??

What most UK hunters call a ''Roman Grot''. I prefer our made up word ''Scrappy'' to describe a Roman Bronze Coin with very little or no detail.
