A TEST!!! Minelab PRO coil versus Excelerator's SEF 10x12 coil---
After using Minelab's new Pro coil on my SEs now for several hunts, I was really anxious to also try out Excelerator/KellyCo's new SEF coils. I ordered both the 10x12 and 12x15 with both arriving yesterday, via UPS along with 3 tall man lower rods. Having been sick all week, fighting a case of pneumonia I haven't felt much like metal detecting or anything else for that matter. Tuesday, high on fever I thought the circle in our front yard was on fire. Not one normally to hallucinate, I hightailed it to the Doc first thing Wednesday morning. Two big pills, and a package of five to be taken once a day has put me on the road to recovery. Anyway, I got up this morning determined to compare my Minelab PRO coil to the SEF 10x12 whether feeling good; feeling bad.
Below is a picture of flag markers. What I did was to metal detect a section first using SEone dressed in my Minelab PRO coil; flagging all good signals. Then, I grabbed my SEtwo, dressed with the SEF 10x12 coil and went over the entire area again. The SEF coil hit on all signals found by the PRO plus found two more. Both detectors, other than coils are setup/programmed identically. I then proceeded to another strip, swinging Excel's SEF coil, marking all good targets. I followed this trip up; swinging my Minelab Pro. Once again, Minelab's PRO coil hit on all targets found by Excel's SEF coil, finding two more in addition. So, both coils performed almost identically IMO. I do give the edge to Minelab's PRO coil as in my opinion it is a little more sensitive on small items. Plus, it's lighter, and a little better balanced. Here's my take for my last three hunts.
