I am not sure how to characterize this find, it was not done with a
metal detector as most finds posted here are.
I like to do walks around my neighborhood, and about one-half mile from
my home is a complex of office buildings, some of which have been vacant
for years due to the country's economic problems.
One of the buildings has a large ornate water fountain with an artifical pond.
The pond still has water in it but the fountain has been turned off.
I walked behind the pond and saw that there were some small coins in it,
probably left there by office employees when the building was occupied.
I could see that many of the coins were corroded and stained, they must
have been in the water for years. Apparently no one cleaned them out.
I scooped out some of the coins and took them home, the total was around
$1.29 worth, one dime, 16 nickels, and 39 pennies.
The most recent coin was from 2003 and the oldest was 1971, as far as I
could read the dates, difficult for the pennies as many were very corroded.
