I have seen a number of cruddy clad halves too ('dirty' silver is OK by me ). Interesting for coins that don't circulate much, how do they get in such terrible condition?
Did these coins spend time in a coin dungeon?
 

Stored in a basement or house that flooded would be my guess.
 

I'm also guessing a flood, but a flood of saltwater as in Hurricane Katrina. I bought some like these a few months ago. I asked the seller how the coins became so corroded and he told me his house was flooded during Katrina.

I got a roll of dimes the other week that was the worst i'd ever seen. Let me tell you, you would not have even known what type of coin they were let alone their dates. I've been a large volume CRHer for years and this was the first roll I put back to let someone else get lucky. :icon_thumleft:
