"Acid date" buffalo nickel values

Perusing my latest coins mag today and discovered one dealer (very reputable) who is selling buffalo nickels whose dates have been restored with Nic-A-Date, so-called "acid dates." This is a good guideline for anyone who's thinking of selling on eBay or T-Net's auctions.

1913-D (Type 2) - $40.00
1914-D - $29.00
1915-D - $6.65
1915-S - $15.95
1916-S - $3.25
1917-D - $6.25
1917-S - $6.85
1921-S - $21.00

These are the only ones listed but it's a good starting point. Looks like they're using 25%-35% of the "Good" value.

Very interesting. I have several no dates I have been looking at using nic-a-date, but was under the impression that they were pretty much worthless (which did not matter as I got them from circulation and am curious as to what date they are), but now I will have to keep track of them a little more closely after revealing the date. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the info Immy. I've got quite a few of these "acid dates". I'll buy a bag of "dateless" buffs from my dealer and bring them home for the nic o date. I only did this out of pure curiosity, but am glad to see there may even be a market for these things.. HH,, Gpurs...

I wouldn't give ya a nickel for them, but there are those who think these things have value.... so whatever you can get for 'em, go for it.
