Hi,:hello: ( title should have read "thread", not "threat" )

Well, looks like the over - heated trunk was not the culprit.

Seems the equipment got "tired" and "roughed up" from all that I had demanded of it...detecting almost every day.

Here is the scenario to date :

GT:

Coil was found to have a tiny cut in the center section; copper cable wires found to be defective in two areas:

#1) near the housing connection

#2 about 1/2 way down the cable.

The coil cut has been sealed; the defective wires have been removed and the adjacent wires have been re-soldered; the GT is now working well, but I believe this to be a precarious situation and I will probably need to replace the coil in the not too distant future.

(Presently talking with someone who may have a coil for me to purchase)

SOV ELITE:

Cable wiring faulty about 6" from the housing unit connection; wiring has been repaired /re-soldered.

Elite is in transit back to CT from Fla.

Been re-introducing the GT to the beach the past couple of days....lots of clads and sinkers, but it was great to feel the GT in my hands and hear that nice smooth "buzz" again.

I want to sincerely thank all the forum members who were so kind and generous -sharing their views, suggestions, and advice with me .

Also my detecting friends who lent me their machines so as to alleviate my "withdrawal symptoms".

You are all very special to me, and I deeply appreciate all the help that you gave in your replies to my thread.

HH
Lorraine

Hey lorraine!! Yea, Smaller isn't always better!! Seems as if everything gets nannoed down to microchip size dependability decreases!! Thanks for the heads up!! GOOD LUCK and GOOD HUNTING!! VERDE!!

I am glad you got everything worked out with your machines good luck hope u find some gold I bought me a used excal blue a couple of weeks ago just in case my excal 11 stops working I have worked it hard the past two years

Back in action again real soon! Yeah!!! Glad you did not have to buy new! Good luck again

Glad you're making progress, Lorraine. I think my detector might work, but will have to test it in the field tomorrow. I put the batteries back in and had to reset it 3-4 times, but it quieted down. Acting like it's scanning multiple targets instead of one, tho. Find out tomorrow. GL & HH.

Quick repairs at least! I wrecked my Xterra coil this spring and had great luck getting a nearly new one from a dealer at half price, simply by emailing quite a few inquiring whether they had a used coil in stock. You never know what they may have laying around.

That's good news Lorraine! That was a quick turn around!
Now you can get back at it with a detector you're familiar with!
HH!

Glad to hear you're back in business in time for some great low tides.

Where coil cable was mended you can spry it with plasti-dip, it is a waterproof rubberized coating I used on my mods on excal...

Not good but a LOT better than it could have been. At least it's fixable. Sure glad to hear it wasn't the control box and that you're back in business ready to plunder the gold. " Good Luck".

Well, looks like the over - heated trunk was not the culprit.

Glad to see you're back in action Lorraine. I was hesitant to blame the trunk, because it doesn't get as hot as inside the car.
