A loaded misfire blank.

Looks like a .556 to me. It's a blank round but it does look like it was fired and did not go off (mis-fire) like Back-of-the-boat says. Commonly used in 21 gun salutes.

Way too big for a 5.56 unless the OP has really small hands....

I was thinking smaller hands tilting the shell closer to the camera and trying g to compare to my fat fingers. I agree then. I even took a pic of a. 556 blank held similarly to see how it looked. Definitely smaller even though my sausage fingers help to make it look smaller. You can see a Lake City 1953 30-06 shell in the background.
