Morning,
I spent a couple of hours sunday digging in my paleo spot. Moved much dirt and was about to give up for the day when this little beauty rolled out. Its an Albany spokeshave.
Dr. Clarence Webb classified this type which is chipped all over instead of having one side with cortex remaining as a "refined" spokeshave. Anyhow its made of a nice heat treated chert. Albany scrapers of this type are from the San Patrice culture. Notice the San Pat base on the point.
When I first found this type of thing, I thought it was a broken arrowhead. It was only after Dr. Webb looked at my collection that he set me straight. They are pretty rare to find in my location, but welcomed when I do.
Happy Hunting,
Atlantis
