I am a first time user of this wonderful and amazing site with the worlds greatest members!
I've been getting the itch to start metal detecting again. I grew up in Western Washington a long time ago. My dad was a Whites Goldmaster and Coinmaster user back then in the early 70's so naturally I was a Goldmaster and Coinmaster user though I don't think I found much more than pull tabs, bottle caps and pennies. Come to think of it I don't think I've used anything but a Whites.
Fast forward to today. My wife and I moved here to Hawaii on Oahu a year and a half ago for my job. I'm about ready to buy a top of the line metal detector that will work on our beaches, surf and local soil that is full of minerals and iron. I'm trying to do this without spending any money. I know, good luck with that!
All jesting aside I need some help from the worlds best to narrow the field. I am just fine going with the used market. I am also hoping to not spend more than around 400 bucks. Is there hope for me?

I'm still in the search mode for an affordable metal detector suitable for Hawaii. Seems the field is pretty narrow.

Aloha and mahalo

Welcome to TNET!

Thank you all.

A little update. Today on the way to the beach I got a call back from a Craigslist inquiry about a Whites XLT. Short story and 150 bucks later I am now the happy owner of a very nice Whites XLT Spectrum. It came with the case and a nice Whites Bullseye pointer. Came home with some change, bottle caps, a toy helicopter and some other trash.

Harvester, It sounds like you found a great detector on the used market side. Happy hunting. Post some pictures when you can.

Welcome from NE Ohio.
