I actually found this a couple weeks ago, but I lost all the pictures on my phone when it updated :BangHead:. I ended up recovering them off the memory card, so I figured I'd post it! Anyway, I recently bought a new NEL Storm coil for my AT Pro, so I wanted to take it on a test hunt to get an idea of how it performed in the field. I took it to a buddy's place that was built in the 1830s or 1840s. We have hunted it a lot, I thought the NEL would be able to sniff out some deeper relics... and I was right! I got a strong, deep signal that ended up being this awesome pocket watch! The ground was thawing, so everything I dug was covered in a thick layer of mud. That being said, I couldn't see anything engraved on it while I was out there. Imagine my surprise when I finally was able to wash it off and saw a great train scene engraved on both sides! It appears to be gold, but I haven't had it tested yet. I doubt it is, and I don't want to risk breaking it by opening it. Gold or not, it's definitely a great start to 2018! Enjoy!

Very nice find! :headbang:

Ya gotta open it up... AFTER good soft external cleaning.

All info is inside case.

PS... The green "crust" is not a good sign of gold.

probably gold filled? Could be solid gold, though it is unlikely. Still even if it turns out gold filled it is a great find!

nice find! It contains at least some gold. I found one a while back that after a quick wipe looked really good. Turned out to be what's called "rolled gold" which is essentially a thick plate. Let us know what you find out

WOW what a great find!! :hello2:

I think it was more about getting your coil over the target this time, rather than I do the Storm coil (given the depth), but whatever the reason for the find I still thinks its pretty great!!

I think it looks like gold ,no corrosion after being underground for over 150 years.?....A GREAT START ....

Sweet, congrats on that cool pocket watch. Don'tcha just love to see gold when the dirt is washed away.

Congratulations on your awesome score! Sorry about your phone update challenge .

A pocket watch of that caliber is at the top of my bucket list. That is a gorgeous find, and a GREAT way to start 2018! Congratulations on a spectacular find!!

Nice pocket watch you dug there.

I'd take it to a jeweler, have him open it up and show you the letters, words and numbers that will be there.
Ask him what they all mean.

Don....

Congratulations on the nice find! :icon_thumleft:

Now thats awesome regardless of the gold content. Sweet find! [emoji2][emoji106]

Cool as all get out mate. Love it regardless of gold content. SWEET!

Very cool pocket watch! I found a very old 10k gold ring with some similar deposits on the surface. I was able to scrape it off with a wooden skewer very carefully. I zoomed in on your pics and it is either thick rolled gold layered over brass or solid gold, let's hope for the later. Congrats !!

Wow that is a beauty :occasion14:

A great motif on that watch, what a great find, congrats!

That's what keeps us all out there swinging. Well done!!!
