I found this while searching a tot lot. When I dug it up I thought it was a road kill dime due to the thin edge. It sort of looks ancient to me. At the same time I'm thinking it's made to look old for jewelry, except I don't see where it had a loop. I also know reproduction old coins have been made.

...oh let me quit rambling and show you the pictures.

Old Side by Side.webp

Old Obverse.webp

Old Reverse.webp

The only thing else I have to add is that this coin is not magnetic.

Thanks for any and all opinions.

Late Roman Bronze, looks to be a fallen horseman type. Can't make out much of the lettering in the photo.

Identifying Late Roman Bronze Coins

^that might help you.

Such coins (particularly in that grade) are not rare and are rarely, if ever, faked. So you've got a genuine Roman bronze dating from ~200-400 AD.

Thanks to everybody for their help. I am so excited. I don't care if it's common. This was truly the last thing I would have ever expected to find in an elementary school tot lot. I really thought the chances of this being real was about 2%. LOL, I expected to have to go to Europe to find such a coin.

Thanks for giving me a place to find out more about this coin.

MERRY CHRISTMAS! :hello:

I believe it's constantius ii from around 340 ad looks to be the real McCoy :)

Looks like a kid lost his show and tell item. Bad for him, amazing recovery for you. Now try to beat your oldest coin record now!
