Another backyard iron relic

Well, a little more "excavating" in the back yard has provided another relic. That's three tools thus far as well as scads of other iron items. I also found a leaf spring from an old horse drawn wagon.

Neat find! I found a hatchet (axe) head almost identical to yours at a Civil War campground. The only difference is mine had a deep vee in one side for pulling nails. Thanks for sharing the photo. Ron
 
Mine actually has a deep vee as well but the corrosion has covered over it...
 
I think this type Hatchet was actually an early forerunner of the roofing hatchets that in use today. Most roofs were either wood shingle or wood shake, and the hatchet was used to trim-split the shingle to width, nail it down, and pull any nails. It is truly a neat old tool. great find.
 
That's a nice looking axe head.

That one could be restored nicely.
