So I headed out on Friday for my friends' ranch in North Texas...I once again hit the cabin site that has produced tons of finds over the last 2 years....well, this weekend was no different! This time I had my mother in law with me, to help her get used to the Garrett Ace 250 I got her for Christmas....She also does jewelery and art from found objects, and I figured she could start detecting with me and find stuff for her art as well! Well, we had both been at the cabin site for about 3 hours, and finding the usual square nails, glass, china, and crockery pieces...and of course how it always goes, just before we are to head back to the house, I get a great signal about 6" down...When I saw it in the hole, I knew what it was immediately, because I had dug one on New Years out there.....From the hole out popped another trigger guard! Upon cleaning it, it is stamped 36 Cal. and hopefully is the handle to the barrel I found last New Years...The last guard was a 44 Cal....and I have also found a hammer to the 36...also over the weekend we went into town, and hit an alley behind an old saloon from the 1890's...They had been replacing the plumbing in the building last time I was there, and had a good amount of the alley tore up.....well, after all the rain we had, we decided to see what had been brought up to the surface...Found a couple of glass buttons, as well as other buttons...and this pewter button with a pat. date on it....Next I found the '37 Merc, my first of the year....Then, down a ways while looking over a dirt patch I saw what appeared to be a coin....I picked it up, and couldn't make out what it was other than it was about the size of a nickel...Once I got it home it turned out to be an 1894 V nickel! I was pretty stoked, but somewhat disappointed because it was an eyeball find, and not dug....but I'll take it! We wrapped up the weekend with some more fossils, and a couple of broken points, and some cool rocks.....It was a great weekend with friends, and family!
As always, thanks for stopping by and taking a look!

Here are the pics of the trigger guard....The serial number is still visible, so I will check on what year it is.....after checking on Proofhouse.com, by the serial number it appears to be an 1864 Colt Navy...but I could be wrong...any help is appreciated>

Very nice hunt and finds, Baggins. Hope that piece will complete your pistol finds from previous hunts. Nice coins and buttons, too. That heart- shaperd stone is really cool.....just in time for mothers day :D

Here are some better pics of the nickel after a short soak in some Lime Away...it really brought out some more of the details of the coin....
