I found this item in an area that had Military buttons and seated coins. It is made of lead. It has a nice Federal type Eagle on it holding arrows in it's talons that are crooked like lightening bolts. Quarter for size reference. Its been suggested that it might be a powder can lid. I've found several powder can lids, including one at this site, that are pewter and say Hazards Powder on them or are just plain. All or those that I have found have screw on threads though to insure a tight seal to preserve the powder. This one doesn't have any threads. What looks like it may be threads on the inside is just grass and roots that I didn't clean out. Any ideas would be appreciated!

I also found this there, made of brass. I wonder if it is related to the lead piece?

As much as the eagle would seem to indicate it’s military, to me it appears to be the cap (originally octagonal) to a tube like toothpaste comes in. Shaving cream, ointments and artists paint are the other things that come to mind in this type of tube, but not military in my opinion.

Got to be one of those war of 1812 powder stoppers

The image of the eagle clutching the arrows reminded me of a War of 1812 US Infantry cuff button I found years ago. :icon_scratch:
I'm thinking your piece is later though, probably c1840 - 60 in date.
