Hello Everyone,

Just joined this awesome forum you all have here. I've been lurking and reading the post for some time now just trying to get a feel for the place. You all seem to be good folks & quite tolerant of new members like myself. Just wanted to let you all know... the kindness & help you each extend to one another is just great.

Past couple of years hubby saw my interest in things buried/lost/forgotten in the ground/ocean/sand/beaches & etc growing. So before Christmas 2008 he took me to Wags Hobbies in Granite Quarry where I purchased my first MD. Wags the owner is one neat guy with tons of knowledge & doesn't mind at all talking about MD'ing & finds. Wags even let us rummage through his containers of misc clad & small finds he had on hand. Wags educated me, hubby and my 12 y/o about different MD's & what each can detect, depth and that you got to dig. (I never met Wags before last Christmas so this is not a plug for him but I would gladly give him one) Wags & his wife are rare folks. The type that makes you feel right at home & goes that extra mile just because, that's how they are.

Me and my family live outside of Lexington (BBQ Capital of the World)! Yeah... I've been finding the strangest items in my own front yard I must say. :o Large pieces of Angle Iron, tiny balls of foil, an old squared type shovel minus the wood & clad. We've been to a couple of parks found a little clad. I admit I'm not very skilled with the tones on my MD yet. We have two daughters, one in College at DCCC & one in middle school. The oldest is gone most of the time so it's just us three Musketeers out hunting that rainbow. I look forward to getting to know you all. Lots of people call me Hel but I answer to most anything, hey you, mama, Miss Lady mostly Hel.

Thank you all for reading my post. Any comments, suggestions and ideas are welcome & appreciated. Hel

welcome to treasurenet. I'm glad to hear that you had some good luck out of wags hobbies in granite quarry he seem to know a lot about md's I didn't like the way he talked trash about other dealers and he didn't seem to be up to date on newer mds then when I went to buy two xlt's he wanted full price and did seem like he really wanted me there I guess I was asking a lot of question so I came home talked here on the forum and found about tc metal detectors now he wanted to deal and the rest was history. but again welcome

The only dealer he mentioned was I _think_ KellyCo. He mentioned they didn't always want to replace things damaged in transit. He may have been speaking from personal experience, I'm not sure. Because I too busy gawking at all of his personal finds. He does have quite a collection of them, good ones too. Getting advice here in the forum before making your purchase was right on. I don't like hearing a business talk bad about another business. I'm glad you found TC and they were willing to give you a deal. I think I'll check them out. My youngest daughter is good with a MD & we are thinking about getting her one for her birthday this May. We just need to go with something not quite as heavy as the M6 for her.

I got a White's M6 from Wags. Hubby said White's MD or no MD. We went to a dealer over in Mocksville but they were closed & the store hours didn't work for my husband at all. His hours at work were 7am-7pm, 8pm, 9pm M-SA at that time. Thank God he is taking a breather & gets off at a decent hour so we can go MDing together. White's being made in the USA sold me the M6.

My biggest problem now is differentiating the good tones from the junk ones. I'll have to take some pix of all our junk finds. I swear you will laugh, I still laugh at them. Did you know an M6 will pick up the lid off the plastic jello pudding cups? I've never been disappointed by not finding metal with my M6 at all. LOL I just seem to find too much of the wrong metals. That's what learning and practice is all about.

Thanks so much for the welcome.

Well welcome to the club. Hope you enjoy it here! nothing wrong with whites detectors I just chose Minelab to sell because whites has told us and others people in the past they choose not to donate for kids education and Minelab does! Plus the fact Minelab is soley used by the US government in minesweeping. So, I can't help you with your machine. Just keep practicing and when you graduate you can buy a Minelab! lol j/k You will figure it out! Cheers

well first off welcome to Tnet you will find everyone here has been in where you are at now with learning your detector and then you'll get another one and it starts all over but its fun in learning and at least your laughing about trash finds i thought i would never find anything but trash for about 6 months or so but it does get better when you figure out all the tones and Id's.I also so live in the BBQ capital of the world but its alittle east of you LOL. for everyone that doesn't know in NC you can get three differant types of BBQ and everyone thinks theirs is the best but they are all good in their own way.oh something to add about detectors i know you have one you like but don't discredit other companies minelab and tesoro are great detectors down here in NC.if you keep in touch when the fall gets here maybe we could all get together for some relic hunting over this way i can promise you will have a good time.AND GET SOME GOOD BBQ.LOL.if you like Cw relics

I would like to extend an invitation to you and all who reads this post to join us at our next meeting. We have started a new Detecting Club in Greensboro with our first organization meeting today. Please see the club post in this forum. Welcome to the Treasure Net and happy hunting.

Jeff
