Here is a what's it I found at my latest site. A cornfield that runs along side a river in a part of town that's been around since the 1700s. I had almost tossed it in the scrap brass bucket when I saw a post by Iron Patch showing his display cases and saw what appears to be a whole one. Mine has both ends broken off but looks to be an identical piece as far as size & shape. It's rounded on the top & perfectly flat on the back. First pic is the piece I found, second pic is a copy of one of IP's displays with the piece circled. Any help with what it might fit and the vintage would greatly assist me in dating the site I'm currently working. I have permission to detect 400 acres. Thanks

It be along the lines of this.1st pic.(Original Flint British-Manufactured Musket of the India Pattern)

This fine quality musket was manufactured ca. 1800 to 1810 and has apparently never been issued.
2nd pic. (Original Flint 3rd Model Brown Bess.)
Used in the Napoleonic Wars and in the War of 1812. A superior example.
That sould give a idea of the time frame.

Take Care,
Pete, :hello:
